Murray dances - Hit the Quan

Murray of AT&T Security Awareness dances to Hit the Quan. The character Murray is owned by AT&T. I illustrated and animated Murray to show AT&T I can not only replicate their character but I can also animate him doing very challenging moves, like this dance.

Yup. One has a goal of uplifting talent that already got their shot more or less. The other is giving talent an opportunity no matter their previous success.

It's a Swan - Clean

Finally finished clean up on this piece for the @11secondclub Jan 2016 comp. Didn't get to submit to that month's challenge, obviously, but finished what I started. The audio was provided by 11secondclub.com, taken from Hot Fuzz (2007), and the challenge was to animate whatever you wanted using the dialogue. All audio snippets from their monthly challenges are 11 seconds from well known movies.

New Screenwriter's

Being a screenwriter is an amazing thing. However it is my humbled opinion Hollywood is not giving new and innovative Screenwriter's the opportunity to showcase their talent. There are a plethora of remakes coming out soon like the Mummy, Van Helsing and , Dracula just to name a few. There are new s...

Dan G. That is different from what you wrote. And as Regina has shown, producers are not solely relying on agents. But there is something to be said about the agents and the catch-22. Still, that shouldn't stop producers from thinking outside the box. And that was my point.

Clayton Broomes Jr.

I agree, Dan. That is why my comment you responded to before started with "Quite honestly, I don't really see a real solution." It's not going to change. It would be nice if producers collectively sta...

Thicker Skin Please ...

Just gave notes to a writer and had to spend 40 mins holding hands doing therapy. Important to understand the difference between critical remarks and personal remarks. Critical remarks are about the work, personal remarks are about you. You are not your work :) Writers have to really grow a thick sk...

I agree we writers can be a bit thin skinned. If we want to last in this business we need to learn to take, accept, and use feedback/criticism.

Practice.

How important do you think it is making small little shorts to hone your craft as a filmmaker? Thanks

Don Zorbas

Thanks folks! I really appreciate it. And I totally agree in my opinion I think someone should shoot as many shorts as possible whether there one minute or 10 minutes before they go to a feature.

Mark Nickells

100% agree. Spielberg , and Lucas began their wares in a garage. Look what happened. Ton's of trial and error, and probably a lot of misfires. They never gave up. I would be curious, going back in to...

I think it is very important. To add to what Mark Nickells rightfully said, look at Steve McQueen's IMDB. He made a lot of short films before making Hunger, the film that got him into Hollywood. Now he is an Oscar winner.

Are drones any good for filming?

I'd say so but maybe I'm biased. Do you have any good / bad experiences when using drones for filming? http://blog.airstoc.com/index.php/top-films-that-used-drones-in-2015/...

Drones can be excellent tools since you can use a GPS to program where you want them to be. That means you can set the drone in a position and have it hover leaving you to focus on using the camera gi...

If you use a drone as a tool and not a means to an end. Think of it as a more portable dolly. Of course you can get more speed, more movement, but I have seen AMAZING work done with very slow motion t...

If it doesn't really move your story along then it is just a toy used to make some shots (keyword: "some") look cool.

No room for political comments, however sly on this board.

JD' i agree about the no-politics on the board :o). But in defense of Clare's post, it is about female filmmakers -- Let's all have a good day on this planet and hope for improvement all around in the film industry!

JD Hartman

@AM my post was not directed at Clare. I don't see Canada helping out Female DP as being political.

Are any of you in a local screenwriting workshop or group?

I was in mines today. It's once or twice a month, Saturdays, from January to June at Columbia University. The head instructor is Zach Sklar, Oscar nominated screenwriter for JFK (1991) and a mentor at the Sundance Screenwriting lab. Today's session was great as he covered things like obligatory scen...

Dig into and understand post production workflow ... so you can avoid pitfalls on editing, output. Like screenwriting, start with the end in mind ... back up camera original media on a separate HDD and don't touch it unless you need to go recover something.
