I've been networking for my show/writing like crazy over the last year, and while I've met a lot of people, had a lot of fun, and learned a lot, I felt like the traction I'd gained was teeny tiny in comparison to the work I've been putting in. Couple of weeks back I read something from RB (I think it was an older blog post) in which he wrote, "Remember this is a business of relationships." BOOM! That really hit me. Of course we all know that, but I realized I've been focused on networking but haven't really been working on creating relationships. Sure, they go hand in hand, but I think creating relationships is warmer, deeper, more give and take rather than going in with the attitude of, "gee, I hope these people can help me." I've completely shifted my internal perspective on this, which of course impacts how l reach out to people, and am already seeing a difference. Just thought I'd share this "a-ha!" moment in case someone out there is in the same boat.

Pour a shot of Vanilla Vodka of your choice, preferably cooled, into a pint glass. Pour Guinness. After it's settled, write the letter "V" in the foam (instead of a three /four leaf clover). Absolutely delicious. But be careful. They can make for a short evening.
I love Guinness. And the Irish. And our vitual bar. And everyone who visits. I'm just full of love. :)
Allow me to add a "What, ho!" and a Huzzah!" to your "A-ha!" I think you're exactly right.
Heath Sounds good but dangerous - as long as you cans till taste the Guinness its gotta be good
Hey, Rick. Hahahaha! Yeah. It's a dangerous and tasty Guinness drink. You have to be careful when you pour the vanilla vodka. A little less than a shot is just about right. Too much and it overpowers the Guinness.
Has any one got experiences about crowdfunding a musical that they are willing to share - things like how to structure good incentives to invest, types of information potential investors want to know and what is a reasonable minimum amount to ask for? Any help appreciated! Best, Jon
Jon I am open to your ideaa
Thanks Gary - I'll take a look and come back to you with any questions.
Thanks Ricky; the music is in rough mix form at the moment, but all the elements are there. The topic is a bit controversial, but I think it's got legs. If you want to discuss, contact me on Jon.Moon@theplace4music.com; thanks.

Currently a film and media major at FIT, also known as Fashion Institute of Technology, located in Chelsea, NY. I wrote and directed my first short film this past year which was an amazing, exciting, yet scary feeling but I loved it. I am still new to all of this but I am ready and passionate to learn the ins and outs of film making etc. I'm sure most people can agree that it's hard to be a female. Especially in this business, but it is exceptionally hard being a black female. I grew up surrounded by people who gave up on their lives and just stayed around the corner. I want to be different. I don't want to be a product of circumstance nor a product of a certain situation. I aspire to be bigger and better and I will beat the system.
Good job on all counts, I enjoyed the performance you garnered from your lead, you can tell you created a positive space for him to express some strong emotions.
Hey Melina - Do you like YA medieva Fantasy novels? If so may be take a look at my book - Maybe we could do something together?

It's on Amazon in both formats, but you really don't have to buy one unless you like the concept: Carl Jung examines Adolf Hitler for the OSS in 1942.
Soon as I am done with 2nd book I will take a look at your book. WWII huh. Have you ever heard of Donald L. Miller author of The Pacific and Masters of the Air? Hanks and Speilberg are making the Master of the Air into HBO film. He is a good friend of mine. Back cover is also 2 paragraphs now

I see that both of you have decided to work with each other on your own projects. I wish you best of luck. I will start another thread to see if I can get more response to my original topic which has gotten lost. Best wishes.

Expand commentYes, Steve, it might be best to start a fresh thread; six months is a long time. I suggested a few things six months ago. Did you pursue any of them? There are tons of play writing how-to sites and books. Also, there is a lot of material specific to movie-to-stage adaptations. For example: http://absolutewrite.com/forums/showthread.php?221531-How-difficult-woul... http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ScreenToStageAdaptation You might try using the latter list to obtain both the screenplay and the stage script of a project, then compare the two.
