Expand postOh, so James Franco, Seth Rogan, Steve Carell, and all these newcomers aren't movie stars? With the exception of Carell, who is both a movie and TV star, they're all coming out with movie after movie after movie that they're starring in and Carell is getting bigger and bigger. Let's be real, those "movie stars" that crusty old out of touch fart speaks of are just as crusty and old as he is. I grew up on all those guys as many on here did, but I recall taking an entertainment financing course with Richard Kiratsoulis and he specifically advised everyone to keep up with all the new and young upcoming stars and don't continually addict yourselves to the stars you grew up on. These newcomers are going to be the stars of tomorrow and if you want to be an effective producer you have to be on top of that at all times. Franco, Rogan, and Carell's movies win big. It's the corporate business model that has changed as far as movies are concerned, and a lot of that has to do with the simple fact that the exhibition windows keep shrinking due to piracy fears, which is awfully short-sighted because piracy will happen regardless and the numbers won't change that much. There will always be cheapskates who will be the bootleg movies because they're cheapskates, but there will also always be people willing to shell out a few bucks to see a movie in the theater because they enjoy going to the movies. However, until decision-makers give more room for smart adult-marketed films in addition to the teen movies over and over that most adults don't care to see, our favorite stars are going to find their movies not as well watched in the theaters. Also, it's not always a good idea to release certain movies at the same time. Just one man's opinion, worth only one vote.

Informative, but reminded me I've still got a lot of work to do.
Do u know specifically about the new SEC rules? I'll be sure to look them up, but the webinar doesn't seem to offer anything new. Do u mind sharing the most striking thing you learned that's not mentioned here? Thank you kindly.

I have ZERO money but I have 6 pieces of music that I need to get the Master Use and Synchronization licenses and somehow navigate through the jungle of clearance. Any advice, tips, connections, ideas, suggestions, or offers of services would be greatly appreciated. I know it's gonna be tough, but this short-film is mainly only for festival exhibition or industry exhibition as it is actually the first 4 scenes of a feature film, re-written as a stand-alone short. But in reality, who actually pays money to go see shorts? I don't expect to make money from this, just raise money, in which case then the whole thing gets shelved and unexposed until the feature film is complete.
Really, I don't know what is the purpose of all of this connecting with people we don't even know on this site. I see people with thousands of connections, yet I'm missing something here because I don't see anything actually happening other than people looking for something or another. Hmm.
Some collect and some actually network. It's just a reality of the social media thing, regardless of industry....a frustrating reality times lol but a reality nonetheless.
I just noticed that a bunch of the people who "connect" with me have literally thousands of connections. Sure, I get doing something like that on Facebook which is obviously all about self-promotion....

Sure, I get doing something like that on Facebook which is obviously all about self-promotion. But how do you manage thousands of connections when you don't actually take time to work projects with them or even live in the same town? I'm still not really sold on this Stage32 bit because I've yet to see any actual value. I have to actually meet someone to collaborate with them and who meets strangers from the Internet that they're not trying to bang around with?
There are some earnest persons like me who will network against all odds and get a producer .LOL

Conversely, a really good story usually also addresses some deeper question. But in a good film, the audience is allowed to discover the deeper question, while enjoying the story. Tootsie springs to mind, or more recently Breaking Bad.
So, bottom line, tell a good story.
Depends where u at...Europe's, especially Balkan's cinema is flooded with 'em...all competing for palms, bears, lions, Goya's whatever...

As a screenwriter, it’s my job to connect the reader with the story and the message being conveyed.
