The Stage 32 Videos: Filmscore

Day 6 of 90. We're rolling now!

Whether you want it or not, Composerbeard TV is back! This time it’s to announce the addition of 100+ tracks and cues…loads of cinematic music now up on brianlhgunter.com and searchable by genre in the menue (yes, I spelled it with an “e” cuz it’s fancier. It’s science.) More to come! New track post every day for the next 90 days, or until I get bored, or until I see a squirrel. In which case I’ll learn everything there is to know about squirrels and start posting that every day. AuDHD for the win! Tell your friends…or don’t. I’m not the boss of you. Who the hell do I think I am anyway Sheesh! Some people…SMH. Now, go make some noise!

Charge

I was curious if I could produce a professional sounding score mockup using only FREE software (DAW, effects plugins, instrument libraries, etc...all freeware). I'm putting together a FREE download pack that will include a resource list with links of everything used to produce this score, the DAW session file, etc...so hit "Like" and "Subscribe", and the bell icon to be notified on updates!

How I Use Reverb Wrong...on Purpose!

A look at how using a tool like reverb in a way it's not intended to be used can help support the story, and bridge two VERY different styles of motifs. From a project where I experimented with the idea of composing and producing a professional sounding original score using ONLY tools offered for FREE by the developers.

Overwhelmed

I was challenged to tell the story of a dramatic scene in 2 minutes of music. The scene depicts a man sitting in his car. He has been struggling with mental health, and is now just staring at all of the medications he has been prescribed, feeling overwhelmed by it along with bearing the weight of stigma in his community where mental health is not discussed. Especially among men, as it would be a show of weakness. The piece begins as I imagine it, very quietly as a string quartet begins playing very dryly, and with as little expressiveness as possible as our character takes in his newly medicated regiment. Feelings of anxiety, sadness and desperation creep in where the strings are joined by a simple piano line. The piano provides the "motor" for the piece as the strings swell into the intensity of the emotional peak. You can imagine the overwhelm boiling over uncontrollably before returning to a quieter and less expressive state as the outburst of emotion finally subsides and turns to the numbness of depression. What do you think? Does this cue meet the brief?
