A Comedy Legend Goes: The Smart, Funny, Authentic, Unique Catherine O'Hara

A few days ago, on January 30th, the lady of comedy we all know as "that mom" from "Home Alone", "Beetlejuice", "The Studio", "Schitt's Creek", among just a few shows and movies she graced us with, passed away.

There are many, many articles spotlighting her life's work, and her story, but I didn't wa...

How Do You Bring a Character to Life Beyond What's On The Page?

Hey actors!

I’m a screenwriter, and one thing that always fascinates me is how you bring words to life. I can write the emotions, the beats, even the silences, but once it’s in an actor’s hands, it becomes something new, something alive.

Sometimes I’ll picture a character one way while writing, but th...

You asked "when you read a script, what’s the first thing you look for to find your way in to the character?" Overwhelmingly it is the dialogue the induces me to "feel" the character. Strong dialogue is so powerful.

I'm 20+ years into this journey, and having worn so many hats, I like to first get inside YOUR head as the writer. I want to see the world you were trying to build when you sat alone at that laptop.
