Expand postThe best way to hone your craft is to learn from other actors. I'm curious from our acting community - when you are watching TV or film for the first time are you able to watch the story as is, or are you analyzing the acting performances throughout?
Both. It depends on how the person looks and then the genre and the aesthetic of the genre. You can get away with some bad acting in younger films but I feel like in any film with older people in it i...
Expand commentAs an actress I only watch stories I am interested in and also that I can realistically get cast in... I always allow myself to be drawn into the story and when that happens I know the acting is good....
Expand commentIf it's a role I can see myself playing, I think, how would I do play that? Would I make the same choice? Do I find these people in this situation believable?
It's been really tough to watch movies specifically to be entertained but I don't feel bad about it. I relish it. I saw a movie recently and the male lead actor heard a bad news. He swallowed the word...

1. Go pro. Spend money—it’s worth it. Go to a professional who is trained, understands lighting, and takes headshots for a living, not some friend who happens to have a decent camera who “sorta knows a little about photography.”
2. Opt for personality over glamour. Make sure it looks like you. Chill...

“It used to be that changing an overly ethnic or difficult-to-pronounce name was virtually essential for Hollywood success. Now, in a way, the reverse is true. Expand postI think one should be fine with the name given by parents. Name doesen´t define someone´s character but the character itself.
I'm surprised when I look up actors and see that their acting names aren't their real names, Tammy Hunt. Example: I thought Will Smith was Will's real name. His actor name (and other actors' acting na...

A phase comes in an actor's career when he is neither an immature nor fully successful. Yet the roles he is offered are not always what may upgrade his profile. So he very cautiously accepts roles, sometimes even leave the characters which hamper the growth.
I need to know what kind of strategy shoul...

Hi Tom, great answer to the question. Exactly what I would have said and what I do myself. I recently accepted and played a role I wasn't interested in, but the money was good. So yes, it fed my wallet...I'm now looking forward to getting offers and roles that feed my soul and my resume.
Thanks Brigitte Millar. I am glad you found it helpful.
I recently responded to a question in this lounge about when you should and should not accept roles. The person who asked is in a different international market than I am familiar with, where they have seemingly been finding a lot of success. My advice was the same advice I give any professional act...

I would not have considered Leo and Brad a dynamic duo, but if they ever do a play together, I would like to invest. :-)
And Simon Pegg and Nick Frost would be incredible
