I’m working on a comedy screenplay and love being around creative people. I live in California with my two cute, demon-spawn, plant-destroying kittens. I love going to the nearby beach and taking photos and sell some of my photo cards along the coast. I’m hoping to make some new friends here. Nice to meet everyone.
Thank you Stefano Pavone! Hope you're having a great day.
Kerry Kennard Yeah, I'm sure Los Angeles is more film-friendly than the sleepy California beach town I live in, haha. :D I love it here though. Thanks for the welcome!

I have a question. I'm writing a biography based on a memoir. It follows the lead character from age 4 all the way to age 60. Is there a rule of thumb on what ages each actor would play the character from and to? Age 4 through 8? Then 9 through 12? I don't know! Also, how do you name them in the scr...

YOUNG JAN, (let's say Jan is her name), TEEN JAN, YOUNG ADULT JAN, and the just JAN when she's at her oldest age? Just curious how you would approach it. Thanks!
Adrian Long thanks! I'm still waiting for a more definitive answer - if there is one. :-)

Dan Guardino thank you. I agree it needs to be defined in the script. I'll check out that script and some others that have characters at different ages.
Hello everybody!
I'm currently working on a fantasy action adventure screenplay and I am using flashbacks to tell a crucial part of the protagonist's story.
My question for everyone is, how do you use flashbacks in your screenplays? Any tips or techniques you would be open to sharing?
My style for this screenplay is to use the flashbacks to set up drama and conflict between the protagonist and his brother.
Happy writing everyone.

A flashback should be well-timed and chosen wisely. Don't overuse it.
i like to use flashbacks to provide twists that characters may not be who they previously seemed

El espectador no va a cine a que lo informen. El espectador quiere una experiencia Y quiere emoción. Vuelve al pasado si de alguna manera el Flash Back complejísima la experiencia del espectador o genera emociones profundas con los personajes.

Expand postHello everyone,
I'm working on a crime/action/drama screenplay and I am looking for a Hispanic writing partner to collaborate with. This story has plenty of criminal action but at it's core is the family drama.
What I'm looking for:
• A collaborative spirit who is up for brainstorming and developing ideas together.
• The screenplay is in its early stages, so there is plenty of room for creative input. I've done a rough construction of the characters and story.
• The story features a diverse cast and explores themes of family trauma, loyalty, justice, and healing. Mix in plenty of exciting action.
My goal is to send this to a competition before the end of the year.
Thank you.

The Screenwriting Lounge isn't the place to find a writing partner. It's for screenwriters to discuss topics about screenwriting, share content (like screenwriting articles and screenwriting videos), ask questions about screenwriting, swap scripts for feedback, ask for feedback on loglines/etc., and offer tips and advice on the craft and business of screenwriting.
You could post a collaboration ad on the Job Board (www.stage32.com/find-jobs).
Let me know if you have any questions. Hope you find a writing partner!

Don't dumb down you work Kathryn Zizek! If they can't grasp it then that's their problem and those folks weren't the right people to read it anyway!

I so wholeheartedly agree with, Nick. If the reader is dumb to begin with they may just smarten up.

Depends entirely on where you want to be. Your artistic voice is your artistic voice, and compromising that can cause a lot of pain, even if it leads to financial success.
