Hey guys. Many of you have written in asking if we could aggregate the network requests you receive on Stage 32 into one daily email. I'm happy to announce today that we have implemented this system. Starting today, all Stage 32 members have automatically been set to receive a single email a day with all network requests. Keep in mind, you have full control of these settings. So if you would still like to receive a single email for every network request sent to you on Stage 32, you can …
One of the most frustrating things for any screenwriter (believe me, I know) is getting a pass on a script with no explanation. The dreaded "Not for me" leaves us guessing as to what didn't connect and questioning our confidence in the material. Sometimes, however, if we're willing to be honest with ourselves, the answers can be easily found and remedied. Today, I welcome Corey Mandell, a teacher of screenwriting at UCLA and a Stage 32 Next Level Education instructor (check out his webi…
Good morning, all. Hope your week is off to a terrific start! On the request of a screenwriting manager friend, I recently published a story on Medium titled Know Thy Elevator Pitch! about an experience I had shared with him over lunch. He believed he could use the tale as a teaching experience not only for his clients, but for other managers in his firm to share with their clients as well. By request of quite a few screenwriters who use our Happy Writers services, today, I am al…

Welcome to the weekend, everyone. Hope you all had a terrific week. Kicking off this edition of the Weekend Blog, many of you have heard me preach about the fact that more creatives are taking their career into their own hands by filming a short as proof of concept. One of the most recent and high profile examples of this was Damian Chazelle filming Whiplash as a short and submitting it to Sundance. Not only was the film accepted, but it won its category at the fest. This allowed Chazel…

Welcome to the weekend, everyone. Diversity in the industry is again at the forefront this week. Now the Feds are involved. Yep, you heard me. Yet, there’s proof that female driven films are doing well at the box office, so why aren’t more being made? Well, Variety suggests it all starts with the men in power. You getting all this? Don’t worry, you can find all of these articles under ENTERTAINMENT NEWS. Other items in that section include Kristin Dunst championing te…
One of my favorite features on Stage 32 is the “Desert Island” section of the user profiles. For a site that’s dedicated to facilitating connections between creatives, there’s no better icebreaker than forcing everyone to commit to a perversely short list of only ten films to be stranded with until the end of time. Of course, I spent about an hour putting together my list while I was supposed to be doing other things – and the end result was surprising. If …
