Expand postBeware of actor scams like this Hey, there! This is urgent. I spend a lot of time trying to make sure that the classes, demos, equipment, consulting and other VO services I offer are effective and useful, but ultimately, affordable and a great value. Because I know how hard it is sometimes to make ends meet, especially for performers, and to make sure your money goes as far as it can. That’s why I get so angry when I see something like this. And I rescheduled the post I had written for today, about getting out of management contracts, because I wanted you to be aware of this. And if you would, please forward this to every actor you know – this is asinine. I got an email this morning, as did hundreds of other actors (in the TO box, so I’ve replied to them as well), with the subject line: for those who believe they can act Inside the email, was an offer to find you auditions and roles. Do not respond to this. It is a scam. It may be obvious to most of you, but on the off chance that you’re desperate enough to believe that someone working from home in Iowa is working for MGM, Disney and 20th Century Fox, all at the same time, in the capacity of Senior Talent Coordinator & Lead Writer can, for the discounted price of $100, get you roles in all those types of work…don’t. He can’t. He is lying. I hope that’s clear. Here’s what the email looked like (click on the image to see the first screenful – the text is copied and pasted below): (outgoing email only…please no return email inquiries) Hi. Many of you actors already know who I am. For those who don’t, my name is Marq Thompson. (Or some know me by Marq Lorenzo) I am the Senior Talent Coordinator & Lead Writer for MGM, 20th Century Fox, & Disney. I am not a 3rd Party talent agency. I am the lead writer which happens to also do the composing for all Univeral music as well. I am writing to let people become aware that it’s been over 10 years since we’ve allowed new-coming actors and to open up to the public however it has has been long overdue. We will be having our eligibility drive the first week of July. If it is a success then we are hoping to have it July, august and September. But after that it will go back up to the regular rate of $500. If you’d like to be considered for any roles then overnight your gift payment of $100. That’s a $400 savings. Besides all TV shows and films, here are some of the categories we write for: TV Shows stand-up comedy cartoons Newspaper comics Newspapers magazines Business Consulting Sports Sports News Radio World Radio Olympics Talk Shows Morning Talk Shows Weather News Sitcoms Online Melodramas Youtube & other video sites Movies Foreign Films Adult Films infomercials commercials Fundraisers Extended Sitcoms If acting or behind-the-scenes is your thing please don’t take this email lightly. Because this offer may not come around again. The amount of people interested are usually too many. Many of you had also took the time out to do skits in front of me secretly. Anyhow I don’t have the time to email everyone individually. If you’re interest you’ll go to the post office tomorrow and send your gift payment of only $100 overnight shipment to: L.Marques Thompson 7214 Maryland Dr Urbandale, Ia 50322 Please do not send any paper resumes! Everything is done electronically. On a separate piece of paper you’ll state your real name & contact as well as your link to your online resume. If you don’t have a resume then just post your stats and pic to a wordpress or blogspot. I like pdf or downloadable formats if possible. If you are 17 and under please have your parents sign a note stating you are eligible and have them sign their full name and 1-2 contacts in case I need to call them to verify. We do have roles for all sorts of people. We prefer ages 5-65 years of age. But if you think you can act we will look at all submissions. If you have any youtube 2min excerpts then write the link down. If you are already a top known actor playing lead roles then that probably won’t be necessary. All new actors are welcome to apply as well. I wish all of you the best. I want to take this time out to thank are veteran actors for such a job well done. Your acting has been nothing but awe-inspiring and is sure to leave an indelible impression on humanity for years to come. You ALL are a hero to someone, somewhere out there. I’ve got to make this short, however if and when we call you by phone then you can receive extra ranking points by leaving 2-10 references of people whom you think would like to act. The only other thing is a timely submission and to be patient. Don’t get bent out of shape if you missed the pre-eligibility registration. It isn’t solely based on being the early bird, but it can definitely help.(Often roles are sometimes reserved to even out the scale by ethnicity and age group— for example we are probably going to add some vietnamese and bosnian melodramas. You would need to state that you can speak english even if you are another ethnicity) If we are lacking qualified applicants we may postpone or utilize actors of similiar decent) the key is to just be ready because you never know. Okay. This is a real eligibility offer. God Bless and God Speed! p.s. be sure to call me if you have any questions also don’t forget to pass this on to any friend actors you’d think would be interested they’d thank you for life. -Marq OK. I know I said don’t fall for this, but let’s do one thing that Marq/Marc/Marques/L. Marques asked. If you would, please forward the link to this article to as many actors as you can to warn them of this scam. Here’s the link: http://vo2gogo.com/beware-of-actor-scams-like-this I’m forwarding this to SAG-AFTRA, and the legal departments of the organizations mentioned. Hope this helps. David
Thank you for reading the article, but I got it from actor David H. Lawrence XVII, (Heroes). Please share it.

Toiling with my screenplay about endtimes. And that's exactly what it is...a toil. I've also begun a short about being unemployed or underemployment.... That's also a toil. This new idea popped up during a lazy period. I know this happens with lots of people.
What are some of the things you do to get ready before a scene? Just curios since I know everyone prepares in different ways. :)
I like to write background stories about the characters I play. The more detailed, the better.
as you must have done with the lines and character outlines before getting ready for a scene .. i must suggest you to 1- Focus under the parameters of the scene/stage 2- With blank or empty mind helps in getting natural

Expand commentYou only have two choices to make initially. The character is either fiction or non fiction. If non fiction your work will be to define the idiosyncrasies of that character. For fiction characters....repeat the same as non fiction. As a Director if I wanted a carbon copy of a historical or current character I would animate or have CGI print it out because any actor that thinks they should replicate the character is never going to achieve that goal and be out of character because they are defeated. The practice of creating a back story seems to be the popular prep de jour, but has less value for any particular scene than the character acting on impulse to their senses and what that scene at that specific time requires. It is the spontaneous and valid actor that sends chills through an audience. So how do you live on stage? Be physically fit because you cannot drag an impulse out and hang it out for all to see. Be mentally fit because every spark of change and subtext must be processed in a manner of nano seconds and communicated to the body and the target. There is no "ME" there is only "I" so you cannot substitute emotions as I see even the most adept actors use because they have let the recall stick to the emotion, then applying it to an ever changing target, which then becomes "ME" This is not complicated as your Masters Degree in the Stage Crafts prepared you for. You ever wonder why the greatest of actors never went to an acting college. Relax in a constant state of improving your craft, much like the athlete that practices 8 hours a day for one moment of not thinking how the feat is done. Oh yea..and..............................always have a light heart and have fun!

What about you?

When that happens, write down a brief outline for the other screenplay or a log line, then return to your script. You've got to have the outline first.
Great advice Kris. Thanks

How does find work on Stage 32? There used to be a segment for Finding Work. I don't see it anymore.
Hey everyone, Ive been away for a while but glad to be back on stage 32. Over Christmas I did a short film in Houston TX called His Keeper, take some time and check it out….greatly appreciated. http://youtu.be/it0wF_g_sP8
Hi Brian, Liked your short film I would like to invite you on my show to talk about it. Let me know if your interested.
I'd love to talk to you Lina, I've sent you a message.
Hey Bryan, loved the film. Beautifully done. Would love to talk with you about an idea my writing partner and I have been batting around. Connect with me. Want to see some more of that type of directing on the screen.
To my fellow Creatives: what is your opinion about publishing your work or acting/working under a different name?

As much as I love the stage, I seek more experience in film. I appear in "Left Behind", starring Nicholas Cage and "Focus", starring Will Smith. No, I haven't met either of them in person. I am currently at 31 pages of my screenplay and I belong to a very talented writing group of like-minded people. Barring the obligations of family, looking for work and keeping up with my friends, I look to have my script completed before summer begins. You are welcome to examine my profile and join my network.
Thanks, Emily, for sharing this link.
What do you actors look for in a script when picking roles?
Thanks for ruining it for me, Hardy!
Haha. Unfortunately I do not think that film will ever see the light of day, due to conflicts among crew and issues with actors sadly. Was such a good plot too!
I look at a character of interest that I can bring to life as the writer imagined no matter how much dialogue is involved. The character has to fit my range but in the end I want to be able to accomplish what was intended and be sure that it has a personal touch to make keep it original.

I used some of the pain to write a dramatic new opening for the screenplay adaptation of my first novel...bled on the page, so to speak. It helped. Much of the grief is gone and I'm moving forward, about to print out that screenplay for two eager readers. Once they've gone over it I'll be posting it here as well. It may have seemed like I was absent for much of this year but having Stage32 in the background was wonderful support. Thank you for the emails and updates.
So sorry to hear of your loss, Phyliss. Glad to hear you have been able to channel the grief into something creative. Cathartic, I'm sure! You also were one of our early adopters, and for that I'm more than grateful. Here's to a successful 14!

Expand commentThank you all. It brought home the concept of 'truth' in fiction. If your characters undergo emotional trauma you'd better have a handle on it yourself or your readers won't experience it with them. Mom started me on stories very early so it's part of her legacy. RB, it blew my mind to see what you were trying to do. It's been a joy to watch Stage32 grow and prosper. One of my goals for later this year is to look for an agent--things are turning on their ear in my personal life at the moment (all good, though) and should settle into a solid footing in a few months. My only resolution for this year is to be magnificent. Whatever goals are set must progress on that line.
Thank you for the good words, Phyllis. Seems as if you have your eyes firmly set on your goals. Fantastic. Also, this is the most inspiring line I've read here in some time: "My only resolution for this year is to be magnificent." Man alive, do I love that.
In 2013, I joined a meetup for screenwriters in Baton Rouge. I have learned a lot about screenwriting from the most consistent members. Because of their advice and encouragement, I have come farther on my screenplay than I could imagine. This year I will complete my screenplay.
Love that determination and drive, Alisa. A positive mind wins the day every time.

Profound honor and respect, Zlatan. I am "sentimentally moved," to have found such resonating words, in those spoken. "Everything is about the journey and not the end goal...death." So poignant. Honor and respect where it is merited.
Thank you, Na. I appreciate that.
