Pie Guy

I love this guest guest post… It’s a center shot bulls-eye. Our upcoming Next Level Webinar, The Keys to a Successful Crowdfunding Campaign, has sparked quite a bit of conversation and debate on the site, in the Lounge, via email, and on our other social media pages. We received one letter in particular that stuck with me. It came from a member who chose to be anonymous. This note was attached: RB, I read your comment about the “Hey, You! Look at my Kickstar…

Changing the Way the World Creates, One Project at a Time

Recently, I’ve read some threads here on Stage 32 where members have questioned the worth of networking with creatives outside of their area.  I thought I’d share a story… A few nights ago, I was having dinner with a screenwriter friend.  Let’s call him Steve.  Steve is an award-winning writer.  He’s sold many screenplays and a pilot or two.  Some have gone into production, some haven’t.  Quite a few years back, he was…

Crowdfunding: Cutting Through the Noise

The crowdfunding revolution has taken hold and is showing no signs of slowing down.  Seems as if every creative you run into from actors, to producers, to playwrights, has a campaign rolling.  This past weekend, while speaking at Screenwriters World West, I was fascinated by how many aspiring screenwriters wanted to talk to me not about landing a manager or hooking a producer, but for tips on how to run a successful crowdfunding campaign. And why not?  Seems simple enough…

Filmmaker's Showcase and Screenwriter's Horror Week

A couple of cool items to kick off the week… Last month, in conjunction with the Happy Writers, we launched our first Creativefest and Online Pitchfest.  We were inundated with emails from filmmakers asking if there would be opportunities for them to pitch their work to executives looking for new directing talent and fresh material.  We’re happy to announce, the answer is yes. We’ve invited the creative directors, directors of development, and managers …

A Word of Thanks...

Just a quick word of thanks to all who took the time to participate in this month's version of Introduce Yourself Weekend.  Once again, a record number of connections – over a quarter million! - were made during the 3 day event.  For those of you who are new to the community, welcome aboard.  And for those who either re-introduced themselves or simply took the time to greet and connect with a new member, thank you. This past weekend was also our 2nd Online Pitchfest…

Hope you're all having a creative weekend…Let's get right to it! In Stage 32 news, Lee Jessup adds a 2nd session for The Do's and Don't of Landing a Manager or Agent, Stage 32 hits the beach, and Pitchfest II is a complete sellout! In the entertainment world, a producer accuses Hollywood of some shaky accounting (imagine that!), horror movies continue to thrive, Nexflix almost bests AMC, Kelsey Grammar and beefcake are used in the same sentence, and Mad Men follows Breaking Bad'…

What Every Aspiring Screenwriter Should Know (but no one tells them)

Today's guest post comes from screenwriting career coach, Lee Jessup.  In this post, Lee examines some truths that will assist in navigating the business end of the screenwriting world and increase your odds of success. This blog entry illustrates everything I love about Lee. Not only is she one of the most knowledgable and sought after career coaches in the screenwriting biz, but she's a no BS, straight shooter.  Let me tell ya, that's a rarity in this world. As a reminder, …
