The Shining & Hereditary – Archetypes & Atmosphere (Part 2: Death & The Devil)

Hi everyone,

This is Part 2 of my symbolic video series (59 seconds each), where I explore how post-production choices help convey deep archetypal meaning in cinema.

In this short piece, I analyze Shining and Hereditary through the Tarot archetypes of Death and The Devil, focusing on how editing, rhyt...

You're welcome! Look forward to seeing the mood reel once it's done!

Maurice Vaughan

Thanks, Cyrus Sales. I've been practicing making mood reels with Canva. I'll probably use a program with more features to make reels for my scripts.

Cyrus Sales

I don't know too much about mood reels, however I have several individuals rave about capcut as an option for editing (not too sure what your experience is with editing) but for those who aren't wanting to learn a software like adobe I've heard it's a friendly alternative.

Maurice Vaughan

Thanks, Cyrus Sales. I'll check out Capcut.

Editor Advice for Screenwriters

Hey, editors. Are there any things you think screenwriters could do at the script level that'd make our stories better or your jobs easier? Thanks.

Paul Rivers

Hey Maurice Vaughan, I like your question and we screenwriters need to remember that every good/great editor is also a storyteller in thier own right.

Sam Sokolow

I would say the best thing for an editor is not necessarily what the screenwriter does but rather making sure there is a well trained and competant script supervisor on set to create proper logs and n...

Ai video generation is moving fast

The most viral ad during the NBA Finals?

Not Nike. Not Gatorade.

It was an AI-generated spot for a FinTech startup — made by one guy in 48 hours for $2,000.

The ad was for Kalshi, a platform where you can trade on real-world events:

– Will egg prices rise?

– Who wins Game 7?
