Lionsgate Apology For Megalopolis Trailer

I have no idea how this happened. This isn't a parody movie - its a Francis Ford Coppola film. What do you think? https://variety.com/2024/film/news/lionsgate-pulls-megalopolis-trailer-o......

Lionsgate is recalling its latest trailer for Francis Ford Coppola's epic 'Megalopolis,' which featured fabricated quotes from famous film critics.

Sam Sokolow oh my, what a cock up. If I was FFC, I’d want some kind of redress. You’d think with all of Lionsgate’s experience, that kind of thing wouldn’t occur....

It’s not the first time. Anyone remember David Manning?

Geoff Hall

Mike Boas nope, I can’t say I do. And maybe that’s because of a similar cock-up?

Dan MaxXx

Tax write off for Lionsgate; predictable this movie will bomb opening weekend but it wont matter. FFC is still FFC.

Mike Boas

David Manning was Sony’s fake critic back in 2000. Used for fake pull quotes in advertising.

Disney Is Spending Big Bucks in Europe

It still may not be enough for me to rekindle my subscription. In Canada, we're lucky to get one new movie a month. Prime and Netflix provide much more value.

What are your thoughts on this? Is it big bucks on a handful of movies? Or are they actually investing in European film? Big difference.

Some countriesin Europe have a "streamer levy" which means that a percentage of what a streamer earns must go into schemes that promote training and opportunities to new filmmakers in that country. A great initiative!

The Benefits of Local Film Festivals

Karen “Kay” Ross talks about the benefits of submitting to local film festivals in today’s blog. Benefits like it’s cheaper to travel, you can spend more time at the festivals, and more! And Kay gives other helpful advice and insight!

Good topic to discuss. Best case, you make some good connections for yourself and your film. Worst case, you get some valuable practice in talking to professionals about your work.

@tomlapke makes sense. When the streamers try to do light hearted comedy ie sitcom style, it feels so forced and almost Disney-show-ish. Hopefully, someone will fill the niche. And then I can find something else to complain about ;)

Netflix has been hit or miss with multi-cam sitcoms. I didn't like Disjointed when they first tried, I loved Country Comfort but they canceled it. They have a new Chuch Lorre multi-cam series coming next year and I'm interested to see if he can pull off his CBS magic with them.

Ava Boudi

This is bad news for a small niche startup streaming service like mine! But I still have hope, confidence and enthusiasm! And the moms in my network love the idea!

Pamela Jaye Smith

Good luck to you, Ava.

The Acolyte is cancelled.

Interesting to see how viewership numbers are changing strategy from subscriber growth through legacy brand extension. I didn't think we'd see a Star Wars series canceled after one season but now the numbers play a bigger hand. What are your thoughts on this? https://deadline.com/2024/08/the-acolyte...
