I found this video really insightful and I'm glad that it popped up on my YouTube home page today. From book release burnout to bestseller list realities and more, author Jenna Moreci is sharing what publishing a book is really like.

Do you find these 10 things helpful? Have you had similar experien...

It's not easy to learn something new, but it's impressive that you're going for it, Marilyn Du Toit!!

Don't Judge your Characters

One of the lessons that I learned during the writing process is to stop judging your characters. As a rookie, I wanted everyone to reflect the best parts of myself. It wasn't good writing. If a character is a screw up, a cheat or even someone you would not hang out with in real life, it is still imp...

So true, it's something I see a lot in novice writing. Presenting archetypical characters and voices in qualified ways. You have to just present the characters and let the audience draw their own conclusions about a characters' behavior

Lee Matthias

E.J. and Tom Lapke: I agree. I was not suggesting that the writer must come from "right" versus the antagonist coming from "wrong". Rather that the contrast be clear.

Thomas Yazar

It's true that what you remember most from a movie are definitely the characters. Hans Landa? Best thing from Inglourious Bastards! However, I must say that let's have no qualm about judging: we all do it, all the time. Let's just leave the audience condemn them.

William Joseph Hill

This is so true E.J. Wade ! Only by not judging your characters will they be allowed to become multi-dimensional. As soon as you judge them, it paints your writing only one color. I find my characters...

Decisions, decisions . . .

After finishing preparing my fantasy trilogy for query, which has been its own set of stresses and problems, I decided to take a much needed break from writing and focus on reading stuff not written by me. But now I am ready to start my next novel. While I would like to continue my fantasy series wi...

I am all about number 1. There is a lot of opportunity there to make it a really strong character piece. The concept of an immortal magician conjures up (pun intended) the idea of someone who has seen and done it all and needs to be inspired to care.

Also, adapting a book into a screenplay is a different muscle, even if it is your own book. If you have any eye on possibly adapting it, you might want to watch a webinar like this one now. It might h...

The Inglorious Bastard after “Downfall”

Every one knows about the difference between historical plays and docudrama. The writer of histprical plays may not be much committed to facts though they may include some actual events and people as well. So, the border between reality and fiction in such plays is blurred and the playwright is...

What a loss to the NYC arts community.

This is a little geo-specific, but as a former New Yorker, this has me in my feelings. This venue is a staple to the NYC acting and writing community. It is akin to hearing that Sardis was to close. Book to Play - advice

I have recently converted my book to a play, Can anyone advise where & who I can possibly pitch the idea to please thank you... Sam
